Harold Pinter - dramaturgo, além de poeta, ator e realizador  - nasceu em 1930, em Londres. Escreveu várias peças de teatro, entre as quais Birthday Party (1957), The Caretaker (1959), The Homecoming (1965) e Betrayal (em cronologia inversa, 1978); escreveu vários guiões cinematográficos - como, por exemplo, A amante do tenente francês (The French Lieutenant’s Woman, 1981)-, dirigiu várias produções teatrais (algumas das quais peças suas, como, por exemplo, Celebration,1999). Recebeu vários prémios, entre os quais o Nobel de literatura, em 2005. Morreu em 2008.
